Utah WWI Commission Prize

As part of the centennial recognition of World War I, the Utah WWI Commission is sponsoring cash prizes for outstanding History Day projects relating to the Great War.  Winners will be selected at Utah's ten regional History Day competitions held in February-March, as well as at the state contest held in April.

Projects must relate directly to World War I and may range from the war in Europe to its impacts on the home front, such as rationing, mining, industry, Liberty Bond drives, German POWs, conscientious objectors, politics, etc. Winning projects will demonstrate research, clarity, thought, and some originality.  Relevant projects from all categories (documentary, paper, website, exhibit, and performance) will be considered.

To be considered for a special award, students who will be competing at the Weber Regional must nominate themselves in advance during online registration.

Parking

Parking is available in the public pay parking lot near the Shepherd Building or you can get a $3.00 parking pass at the information booth on Dixie Parkway that allows you to park all day in any W parking lot or at the Dee Events Center and take the shuttle to the Shepherd Building. There is no free on-campus parking. Students arriving by bus can be dropped off in front of the Browning Center. Buses can park at the Dee Event Center.

Teachers Register FIRST

Teachers must register BEFORE their students can register. Students will link to their teachers during student registration.

Creating Your Student Account

After you have created an account in the NHD registration system for your first district/regional contest, it will remain active throughout the current program year.  If you advance from one level of competition to the next, you will use the SAME student account for all contests.

  • Save your username and password so you can easily login to the system as needed.
  • Do not create multiple student accounts.
  • Student accounts are good for the full academic year but do not carry over to the next year.

Email Address is Required

To use the National History Day (NHD) registration system, students will need to receive emails from zfairs.com. If you are using a secured school email address, check with your school’s IT department to make sure you can receive messages from outside the school. You can request that emails coming from the NHD registration system be approved to be received, or “white listed.” Or you may opt to use personal email accounts instead of school email addresses.

FAQ: Families may use the same parent email as the contact email for all participating children.

Cancellations

  • If you are competing in an Individual category and cannot attend the contest, you must send an email to tsaxey@dsdmail.net to cancel your reservation. Provide your name, age division, category, and project title.
  • If you are competing in a Group category and one member of your group cannot attend, do not cancel your reservation. Not all members of a group project are required to attend the contest. At least one student from the group must attend to represent the project and interview with the judges.

  • You must provide the Weebly URL for your website during registration. Your URL should look like this: https://12345678.nhd.weebly.com.
  • If your URL has words instead of numbers in the middle, you’ll need to convert it to NHD Weebly before you register. To convert: go to nhd.weebly.com  and login using your Weebly username and password. Click “Convert” and write down your new URL. If you experience issues converting your website contact nhdsupport@weebly.com.

  • Websites will lock for judging on the date specified for your contest. You will not be able to access your site during the judging period.
  • Websites will unlock after the competition, allowing you time to make revisions before the next competition.

Independent Students:

If you worked without the help of a teacher, you can have a parent, guardian, or teacher register as your teacher designee.  Whomever you choose will receive emails about the contest that they will need to share with you.

You need to register the school you currently attend (select Create Account - Schools), before your teacher designee registers. After your school and teacher designee have registered you can begin the student registration process.

If you have questions about your registration, please send an email to tsaxey@dsdmail.net

Student Conduct

  • Students are expected to conduct themselves, in person and online, in a manner that brings credit to themselves and their schools.
  • Treat other competitors with respect at all times.
  • All students must be accompanied by a chaperone while at the contest. Chaperones are responsible for the behavior of the students in their charge.
